Today we bring you two stories: one about a Filipino community abroad coming together in the spirit of bayanihan, and another about a surprising Gen Z trend that’s all about doing nothing (yes, really!). Both remind us that strength comes from connection and sometimes, from pausing.

The Philippine Bayanihan Society Singapore (PBSS) and the Philippine Embassy Singapore marked a decade of their annual event with the theme “Magbayanihan sa Bayanihan”. Held on 5 October 2025 at Labrador Park and involving over 500 participants, the walk-event drew Filipino community groups, volunteers, sponsors and families. The 3-km walk wasn’t just exercise, it was a visible act of solidarity, of caring for our kababayans abroad, of remembering that wherever we are, the Filipino spirit travels with us. It’s a beautiful reminder of how resilience often lives in collective steps, shared stories, and common purpose.

In a world where our phones ping every second, some Gen Z-ers are embracing a stark opposite: the so-called “rawdogging marathon”. It’s sitting still, with zero gadgets, zero entertainment, just intentional nothingness. Influencers filming themselves “doing nothing” claim it helps restore focus, reboot creativity, and resist the constant digital pull. It may sound odd but when you think about resilience, part of it is rest, pause, reflection. This is a reminder that community and connection aren’t always outward, sometimes they’re inward, with ourselves.
