A research team from UP Diliman developed a two-stage depression symptom detection model that analyzes social media posts in both Filipino and English. Using a dataset of 86,163 tweets, the model first checks whether a post shows signs of depression, then sorts it into symptom categories like mind and sleep, appetite, substance use, suicidal tendencies, pain, and emotion. The study reported 91% accuracy in the first stage and 83% in the second, showing how technology may support early mental health screening and public health efforts.
